The peak-hour problem is a pricing problem
Almost every badminton venue reports the same shape of demand: weeknights between 6pm and 10pm sell out weeks ahead, weekends are strong until early afternoon, and the hours between 9am and 4pm on a weekday are close to empty. Centres often respond by trying to squeeze more out of peak — longer slots, tighter turnarounds, a waitlist — when the far larger prize is the twenty-plus hours a week of unsold off-peak court time.
The lever is differential pricing, and it only works if the price is visible at the moment somebody chooses a slot. If a player has to ring reception to find out that Tuesday at 2pm is half the price of Tuesday at 8pm, they will never find out. Publishing an off-peak rate directly in the booking calendar turns dead hours into a product: daytime league play for retirees, student rates, and corporate lunchtime sessions all exist because the price made them viable.
- Price by day and time band, not a single hourly rate
- Show the off-peak price in the calendar, not on a separate tariff page
- Track utilisation per hour so you can see which discounts actually moved demand
