Why squash clubs outgrow the booking sheet

Squash clubs have an unusual profile: a small, loyal, subscription-paying membership, a court inventory that is fixed and cannot be expanded, and demand concentrated into a handful of evening hours. The booking system is therefore not an administrative detail — it is how the club allocates its scarcest asset.

Booking rules are the club politics, written down

Every squash club has an understanding about who gets the good courts. Full members before off-peak members, members before guests, nobody hogging Tuesday at seven every week for a year. On a paper sheet this is enforced socially, which works until it does not, and then it becomes a committee matter.

Writing the rules down, and letting the booking system enforce the parts it can, takes the club secretary out of the middle of it. One advance-booking window, a maximum booking length per court, and approval for requests the committee wants to see cover a lot of ground. The box league is the social engine of most squash clubs, and it is almost always run as a separate artefact — a sheet of boxes, a results email, a WhatsApp group where players arrange matches. The court booking then happens independently, which means league matches compete for courts with ordinary hire and occasionally lose.

When an arranged box match books an actual court slot, the fixture and the reservation stop being two different facts about the same evening. Players see their match in the same place they see their court time, and the club can see how much of its court inventory the league genuinely consumes.

Daytime courts are the club’s unsold inventory

A squash club with four courts open twelve hours a day has around forty-eight court-hours daily. Membership demand realistically consumes the evening block and weekend mornings. The weekday daytime hours — a substantial share of total capacity — are typically unsold entirely.

Can we use 45-minute court slots?

Yes. Booking length and slot increments are set per court, so you can run the 45-minute standard or 60 minutes where you prefer it.

How do members get priority over guests?

Separate booking windows per membership type are not supported yet — the advance-booking window applies to everyone. You can require an account to book, hold members’ regular courts as recurring bookings, or turn on approval so the club confirms each request.

Can we run box leagues through it?

Players arrange their box matches and book a real court slot for them, so every match is on the court calendar. Box draws, results, and standings are not tracked, so those stay on your league sheet.

Can non-members book courts?

Yes, through your public booking page, at the price set on the court. Separate member and non-member rates are not supported yet, and the same courts and hours are bookable by everyone who can use the page.

What happens when someone cancels?

The court goes back into availability immediately and anyone can take it. Set a cancellation deadline, after which players can no longer cancel online themselves.

Do you handle racketball on the same courts?

Racketball bookings go on the same courts and the same calendar, so a court booked for racketball is not available for squash. Players can note which game they are playing when they book.

Will you raise my price?

Will you retire my plan?
